Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
