The renowned publisher has secured Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Comes After Poor Reception
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Below is the complete text from the president's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that relationship to continue.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a sharper vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to heart and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its promise to our audience.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the new Director of 31st Union. After a period of talks, Ben comes aboard us on next week.
His management and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving him next week. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
The President
